The Customer

This weeks lesson was all about the customer.  If it was not for them, we would not be in business. We need to always remember that.  There are many different ways that we can take care of our customers.  So many people have even more opinions on that subject.  It all comes down to what the customer wants from your business.  If we treat them the way that they feel that they want to be treated, then they will return.  Pretty simple right? Wrong.  The one thing that is simple, is that if you treat your employees right, they will in turn treat your customers right.  It's not fool proof, but just about.  The employees need to be trained and allowed to take care of the customer.  No micro managing.  That will only make it worse.  Give them so autonomy and they will rise higher they you ever thought.  That is the ultimate way to treat the customers right.  The second most important thing that you need to do is listen to the customer.  They know what they want.  If you can listen and adapt as much as possible to fit your customers needs, then they will be loyal for life.

I learned this lesson just two weeks ago.  I made two different types of cups to sell.  One was see through with candy it them.  The other was a hot drink cup that is insulated with hot cocoa in it.  People did not realize they the hot cups had that in them.  They were not selling very well.  So I made the decision to to open up the cups and place a few pieces of candy in them and wrap them up in a clear bag.  That way the customers can see what is in them.  It worked!  Now that they knew that they had something extra in them, they bought them like crazy.  I'm not sure my exact figures, but I think I sold 52 cups.  The pumpkin patch is now closed.  I have another place that is willing to take them.  I have not brought them in yet, because I had already labeled the cups for the pumpkin patch.  Now that they are closed, I can make up new cups and sell them at the other store.  I am happy about my results for me $100 challenge.
